Live and Online Lecture

Black Art in Britain since 1980

By Helen Oakden

Wednesday  8th July at 6pm

We are running a series of live and online lectures and we do hope you will bring an aperitivo and join us for an hour before dinner. We have chosen subjects to stimulate new interests and conversation, ready for the imminent return to socializing. We invite you to join 15 minutes early to hear information on AHA’s plans for the future and there will be time for questions and answers at the end.

Black Art in Britain since 1980

AHA has been lucky to know Helen Oaken first as a student and then as a colleague and friend. For the last five years, while Head of History of Art at St Mary’s School Ascot, Helen has made a study of Black Art in Britain, taking particular interest in Donald Rodney, Keith Piper and Lubaina Himid to name but three. Her talk will be hugely informative to many of us who feel that in our time we have missed a large cultural influence in Britain. Helen is a vibrant and endearing speaker and we are delighted that she has come forward with this important lecture at this significant moment.
