Live and Online Lectures
We have designed a fascinating mix of lectures for December, all with a connection to winter festivities and Christmas – albeit some more loose than others! The aim is to brighten up the winter months with a bit of illumination. We invite you to sign in 15 minutes early to hear our news and future plans. So please do join us with a festive drink before dinner and be entertained for an hour or so.
Midwinter Greenery – Natural History, Folklore and Art
After many requests we have asked Alys back to talk to us. Alys will continue with our Christmas theme for December by discussing Midwinter greenery in art and the continuity of life through the dark season. This will be a whistle stop tour of the natural history, folklore and customs of decorating our homes with evergreens. We will look at art ranging from Roman mosaics, watercolours by Durer and paintings by the Pre-Raphaelites. It will be an uplifting glow of light for us all as the festive season approaches.
